Welcome to Mediterranean Melodies. I’m Avie—a Greek mum living in New Zealand with my husband and our two young boys.
I grew up surrounded by sunshine, olive trees, family tables and the kind of food that was never just food. It was how we gathered, how we cared for one another and how we kept our stories alive. Living far from Greece has made those memories feel even more precious.
The little moments
This is not a place for perfect family life. It is a place for the small moments that become the ones we remember most: flour on the kitchen bench, something warm in the oven, laughter around the table, and two brothers learning how to love one another.
I still think about the afternoon when my youngest was still a toddler and carried a tiny piece of cheese across the room to his older brother. His brother already had some, but my little one wanted to make sure he had another piece. It was such a simple thing, yet it held everything—kindness, family and love in its smallest form.
Food, family and memory
Here I share the recipes we cook, the traditions I carry from my Greek childhood, and honest stories from the life we are creating now. Some dishes come from generations before me. Others are made from whatever is in the fridge while two hungry boys wait nearby.
Mediterranean Melodies is my way of keeping all of it together: Greece and New Zealand, old memories and new ones, the meals we make and the people gathered around them.
